NPR: Vote for the Best

NPR's All Songs Considered are doing their own user vote for the best music of the year:

All Songs Considered, November 22, 2007 - It's that time of year again, when all the critics start scratching their heads as they look for the year's best album. Was it Radiohead's In Rainbows, or something more off the radar like Loney Dear's Loney, Noir?

Tell us what you think. Vote for the best album of 2007 in our online survey. We'll post the results on All Songs Considered Dec. 20. Some of the contenders are listed below.

Man of a Million Faces

Artist Stephin Merritt was recently featured on NPR for a new feature that they're doing, called Project Song. There, the artist has to come up with a song from scratch within 48 hours. Merrit was shown a number of photographs and words, and he chose the picture above, as well as the card: 1973.

The result was the song Man with a Million Faces. I really like this one - it sounds very cool, a bit somber, but interesting. I'll be interested to see what this feature comes up with next.

Here's what he came up with:

All Songs Considered Changing

I just got this notice today with my All Songs Considered podcast:

This is just a brief program note to let you know about our new All Songs Considered live concert podcast. We've just launched it with a performance by Nickel Creek. Subscribe to the concerts podcast for access to all the past live shows, including Spoon, The New Pornographers, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more.

I'm a big fan of the show, and they've started putting up live concerts recently, of which there were some really good ones. This is an interesting step, and hopefully, they'll be putting it up on iTunes, so I can listen within that platform. Their latest concert is of Nickel Creek, which is shaping up to be a fun one thus far.

It seems that this is part of a larger change at NPR.org, as they've completely revamped and updated and consolidated their music page to include a lot of things. Check it out here: http://www.npr.org/nprmusic/index.html?ps=lt
